In Travel Assignments

Melissa has been an X-ray Technician for 12 years and is currently on her first assignment in Salt Lake City. She stumbled upon AB Staffing and has loved her experience as a traveler. Shout out to our recruiter Jack for making Melissa feel welcome to the team; she hadn’t considered traveling until she talked to him.

Thank you for taking the time for this interview. We’d love you to tell us a bit about yourself.

I was established in my career as an X-ray Technician for more than 12 years. I have a 19-year-old son in college and am a single mom, so it never really crossed my mind to travel for work. I am from San Antonio, Texas and love being outdoors.

What made you want to be a healthcare professional?

I love taking care of people. When I stumbled on the AB Staffing website, I sent in my resume, and got a call from my (now) recruiter Jack the next day! He planted the travel seed in my mind, and it got me thinking about the opportunity to explore other places. Before finding the website, I had never thought about being a traveler. In Salt Lake City, I am taking care of patients at the Veterans Affairs Hospital. What I love most about my job is meeting new people and exploring the area.

What attracted you to travel?

As a single mom, I have only traveled alone for a few days at a time, so this was a big change for me! I definitely enjoy the experience and would love to continue traveling to see more of the country. I love Salt Lake City and it will be challenging to top my experience here!

What do you like least?

Being away from family is tough but we find ways to connect.

What advice would you give to someone thinking about taking a travel position?

I would advise them to research the area where they plan to go. Plan days to visit home or have family visit you while you’re away. That helps lessen the homesick feeling.

What do you do when you’re not at work?

I tried paddleboarding for the first time. I’ve also hiked, taken dance lessons, tried new foods, attended concerts, and lots of exploring.

Is there anything else you’d like to share about your travel experience?

If there was a good time to try being a travel X-ray Technician, it is now! I am pleasantly surprised at how much I am enjoying the experience. I thought I would have completed one contract and been back home, but I have met great people, made close friends, that had made this experience amazing!! I am thinking about a second assignment already.

THANK YOU, Melissa, our travel X-ray Technician. We love hearing about your experience.
